Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs, the latest installment in the horror franchise based on William Peter Blatty’s work. The film is written and directed by Mike Flanagan (The Life of Chuck) and stars Scarlett Johansson (Jurassic World Rebirth). Watch the trailer below.
The first trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs introduces a story that blends criminal investigation with supernatural horror. Starring Scarlett Johansson, the film follows Detective Julie Miller, who became known for capturing a satanic serial killer known as Father Sunday, played by John Leguizamo.
Thirteen years after the case, a new killer challenges the detective by writing her name in blood on the walls of a church crypt. The crime forces Julie to confront a past she thought she had left behind and launches an investigation that could put her family in danger.
To solve the mystery, Julie enlists the help of Father William, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who heard Father Sunday’s final confession, and rookie detective Gina Restrepo, portrayed by Sasha Calle. As the investigation unfolds, the characters uncover a possible connection between a lineage of serial killers, from H. H. Holmes to the Zodiac Killer, and an evil force that extends beyond the mortal world.
Written and directed by Mike Flanagan, known for projects such as The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, the film combines crime thriller elements, ritualistic violence, and supernatural horror to tell a new story set in The Exorcist universe.
The Exorcist: Martyrs is scheduled to open in Brazilian theaters on March 11, 2027. The U.S. release is set for March 12, 2027.
